Our training program provides participants with a sound understanding of the processes and key impacts of climate change, climate risk/vulnerability assessment, disaster risk reduction (DRR)/climate change adaptation (CCA) process, climate-resilient agricultural development, disaster preparedness and early warning, low carbon solutions, and the global and national policy response to climate change. There is a specific focus on building professional networks to support these processes.
Our work contributes to the implementation of the Durban Forum on capacity-building, Doha work program and the Our work contributes to the implementation of Article 6 of the UNFCCC and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement which deals with education, training, and public awareness-raising, as well as to the 2012-2020 Doha Work Programme.
Upon completion of the course, participants are equipped to undertake many of the activities that are necessary to strengthen climate change resilience and be sufficiently aware and knowledgeable to generate support for these actions within their agencies and networks. The program helps them to efficiently interact and network with direct stakeholders and other interested parties at different levels. Participants will be provided with certificates for successful completion.
Training Approach
The training is conducted using a range of interactive teaching methods including lectures, participatory discussions, and case studies among others. Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences of developing responses to complex environmental challenges – including climate change – in their area. The courses also include field visits organized in association with our partners and collaborators in research, practice, and media.
The interactions between participants form a key part of the knowledge exchange and learning process and contribute to the development of a network of development professionals who are engaged in addressing climate change and sustainable development. We develop a detailed training module and participants are provided with a reading package. The participants also get access to the web-based knowledge hub of ECAS and the ICCA/UoN libraries.
