Sustainability

THE PROBLEMS WE ADDRESS

The problems we address include data gaps, capacity gaps, employment/skills gaps, and policy gaps, all of which hinder progress, impede effective decision-making, and perpetuate societal challenges.

DATA GAP

The African continent is home to 12% of the global population, yet it produces less than 1% of the world's published research

POLICY GAPS

Africa lags dangerously behind on environmental, climate change, and energy policies, and strategies. Implementation of policies is weak, sectoral-based, or absent.

CAPACITY GAP

Despite the growing emphasis on the importance of capacity and skills to Africa’s development, evidence suggests that African countries lack specific human and institutional capacities, critical technical skills, and resources to support governments, businesses, NGOs, CSOs and development partners, and communities in implementing their development and growth plans and strategies.

EMPLOYMENT/SKILLS GAP

Africa has invested heavily in building skills and increasing public expenditure on education, yet the region continues to have the least skilled workforce in the world. We are faced with an urgent need to transition our society to a green economy to address the threat of climate change. We believe real change will come through a skills-based approach to opportunity
